Welcome to New Students Who Shop Volunteers
We would like to say a big welcome to Kinzaa Durrani and Maryam Bibi who will be volunteering at Age Concern Charity Shop in Hollins!
Lauren's experience so far at Age Concern Charity Shop in Failsworth...
When I started at Age Concern Charity shop I was greeted by Katherine (Age Concern Charity Shop Manager) who is such a lovely person to work with, and who got me stuck into the work straight away. You have to root through all the bags of things people donate and decide which is best to keep, which will sell, etc. Obviously there is only so much room out in the shop so you have to go about looking at the tags which we put on, to see which has been out on the shop the longest, which we then bring to the back and is collected.
Whilst there I have worked on the till which is challenging having to do on the spot maths! But it is enjoyable and I feel content every time I make a sale.
There are a few different areas in the shop containging different items. In the centre is clothing, there is an area for home furnishings, plenty of books and childrenswear and toys also. Everything is kept well in order and on my second day there I did a window display for mother's day in which I put some womens books on, cd's, make up bag, body lotions, photo frames etc.
I have really enjoyed my time there so far, it's such a rewarding experience.

Visual Merchandising Course....
Today students taking part in the project participated in an introductory course to Visual Merchandising. It was a lovely training session and students were able to gain an insight into what it is like to develop a career in creating visual displays, marketing and shop branding.
Students also experimented creating visual displays using props provided. They thought up thier own themes for the displays and completed this excersise in pairs.
