Visual Merchandising Course....

Today students taking part in the project participated in an introductory course to Visual Merchandising. It was a lovely training session and students were able to gain an insight into what it is like to develop a career in creating visual displays, marketing and shop branding.

Their were fun interactiove elements to the course and students developed their own mood boards to express their ideal display in their ideal shop.

Students also experimented creating visual displays using props provided. They thought up thier own themes for the displays and completed this excersise in pairs.

Finally, all of the students were presented with a certificate. Everybody who attended enjoyed the course!
Watch this space for further comments about the training session!

Hello and Welcome to the Students Who Shop Blog...

Students who Shop is a project delivered by Volunteer Centre Oldham and is part of the Student Volunteer campaign. It is an exciting opportunity for students who want to develop a career in retail or business. Students taking part in the project will volunteer for ten weeks with a charity shop in the Oldham borough.

The charity shops are:
  • Age Concern Charity Shop in Failsworth
  • Arthritis Care UK
  • RSPCA Shop
  • PDSA Shop
  • Cancer Research UK
Alongside volunteering, the students will be able to undertake retail related training including Visual Merchandising and Customer Service Skills.

This blog will document the journey of the students volunteering in the charity shops and I hope you are able to follow them along their way.
